At this point, I’m sure you’ve either seen or have heard about WHAT THE HEALTH. I decided to watch this film initially because my mother was told by her physician that she might have Lupus. Conveniently for my mom, I started to play this documentary as a seamless attempt to get her to “eat right”.

WHAT THE HEALTH follows “filmmaker Kip Andersen as he uncovers the secret to preventing and even reversing chronic diseases – and investigates why the nation’s leading health organizations don’t want us to know about it. With heart disease and cancer the leading causes of death in America, and diabetes at an all-time high, the film reveals possibly the largest health cover-up of our time. With the help of medical doctors, researchers, and consumer advocates, What the Health exposes the collusion and corruption in government and big business that is costing us trillions of healthcare dollars, and keeping us sick.”- whatthehealthfilm.com
After watching, I was convinced that I needed to take the journey into becoming a vegan. I already gave up meats except for fish. My mom, a proud smoker and pork lover, was incredibly skeptical but said that she would try to do better. I on the other hand convinced my household that we had to make a change!
So, now what? I don’t know what to eat. Everything seems to have dairy or meat. I didn’t realize how dependent I was on 🍖. I went grocery shopping on Saturday and our food was done by Tuesday. Meals didn’t seem big enough and our fridge seemed empty.
After a week of ordering takeout, we decided to research vegan restaurants to at least get an idea of what to eat. We stumbled on Cafe Sunflower in Sandy Springs, GA. This restaurant was founded 25 years ago. The owner is incredibly active in her restaurant. She seated us and was serving our refreshments!
The decor in this restaurant is boho chic with a California vibe. It is a mixed & diverse crowd. The menu is packed with so many options. If you are in the Atlanta area and decide to go, I recommend going with a group of 3 or more so you all can taste the different options.
I had the quinoa paella. This pic is from Cafe Sunflower’s website. I was too hungry to snap a pic of my plate
My entire family was really impressed with the food and did not crave meat at all. We were full and even had enough food left over to take home. My discovery after visiting a vegan restaurant is that you can still have flavor without using meat or diary. It’s possible! I’m investing in some vegan cookbooks and I’ll share with you all of what I find.
