If you’re like me, you are probably an expert at attending weddings by now. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a wedding guest, but there is always pressure on finding the right outfit for the joyous occasion. The next wedding that I am attending is in Cancun…yes, Cancun, so much fun! As we are getting closer to the big day (September 30th), I needed to hustle on my wardrobe. I tend to plan ahead when it is a destination wedding.
My go to store for occasion dresses is Macy’s. There is something about the department store feeling and the smell of tons of perfumes all in one that I love. The Macy’s by me (Perimeter Mall in Atlanta, GA), has a great collection of dresses, especially this season. I was able to snag an Adrianna Papell gown for under $200 (thanks, Mom!).
So what was my checklist on finding the perfect dress?
Sleeves- I already know that it is going to be hot. In this case, sleeves are not my friend. If you like to cover your arms, a nice breathable sheer shawl will do the trick.
Color- We all know that it is a huge fashion faux pas to wear white to someone’s wedding. Since it is a Summer wedding, I am opting for a nice pink tone. It is best to stay away from dark colors because that can attract heat.
Glitz & Glam- I love a lil…okay, a lot of sparkle. For weddings, I like to incorporate some bling in either my accessories or in the actual gown itself. Less is more during a wedding because you do not want to stand out too much.
Length- It is important to consider the appropriate length of your dress. If it is a fitted dress, I tend to select gowns that are past my knees. If you are opting for an A-Line or flared dress, above the knee should be fine. Remember, most weddings are an open bar, so you don’t want to have to worry about fixing or pulling down your dress when the electric slide comes on.
Confidence- How do you feel when you put this dress on? If you feel like Béyonce, it’s a winner!
Most importantly, remember to have fun and find a great necktie for your date…😊
