Wine With Whitney

Since I was a little girl, my birthday has always been a big deal. Now as I enter my 34th year of life, it is STILL a big deal. In true libra form, I started my celebration early this past Friday at “Wine with Whitney”!

Wine with Whitney is an intimate wine tasting and dinner event curated by sommelier, Whitney Blue. I met Whitney a few years ago at a Femme Tech event and was fascinated with her story. She was passionate about wine and decided to invest her time and money into becoming a wine expert, which I recently found out is very expensive!

Besides working at VinoTeca and hosting private events, Whitney plans on creating a scholarship for future sommeliers to help them launch into this career. So let’s dive into the event.

Whitney joined forces with Briana Riddock, a chef & blogger, and created a delicious menu paired with the perfect wines. Our first dish was a spread with hummus, cheeses (all types!), and fancy crackers. It was delicious and I dare not to ask what the names were because I was hungry. Our first wine was a Rosé. Yum!

Next up was a salad on top of whipped feta cheese with pickled pear. I never had pickled pear, but let me tell you, the taste along with the raspberries and feta was superb. In terms of wine, it was paired with Godello Varietal, a white wine.

We had a choice between salmon or chicken for the entree. My gut told me to go with salmon, and boy did I make a great choice! The salmon was so flavorful and is honestly the best salmon that I’ve ever had. It sat nicely on top of egg noodles. I think every last person finished every bite of their meal. The entree was paired with a red wine.

Desert. A chocolate delight. A pudding for the elite with a warm biscuit cookie. It was paired with a mascot not to be confused with moscato wine. Muscat is now my favorite desert wine.

All in all, this event was an amazing way to start off my birthday festivities. Court and I made new friends and were able to catch up with old ones. Hey Jazmine!

Be sure to follow Whitney Blue & Chef Briana to be the first to know about their next events.
